- 1). Purchase organic produce when possible. Organic produce is not grown with pesticides. If you can't purchase all your produce in organic form, consider purchasing your spinach, peaches, bell peppers, strawberries, pears, nectarines, grapes, cherries, lettuce, potatoes and celery organic. These are the produce items most likely to contain higher levels of pesticides.
- 2). Have your water supply tested for pesticide residue. If it shows pesticides, install a water purification system that can at least remove pesticides from the drinking water. Bathing in pesticide-contaminated water can also cause health risks. So if your levels are high, consider installing a full home water purification system.
- 3). Clean your home on a regular basis, including walls and windowsills. Pesticide residue can build up in carpets so you should steam clean your carpets a few times a year to remove the residue.
