How to Connect a DVD Recorder With a Digital Receiver

    • 1). Cut power to your television and digital receiver before hooking up your DVD recorder to these devices. With the power left on there's always the risk of receiving an electrical shock.

    • 2). Plug one end of one of your yellow A/V cables (commonly referred to as the "composite" video cable) into the yellow RCA output jack on your digital receiver. Plug the other end of this cable into the yellow RCA input jack on your DVD recorder.

    • 3). Connect one end of one set of your red and white A/V cables (these cables carry the left and right audio signals) into the red and white RCA output jacks (respectively) on your digital receiver. Plug the other end of these cables into the red and white RCA input jacks on your DVD recorder. Always match the color of the plug to the color of the jack when connecting A/V cables.

    • 4). Insert one end of your other composite cable into the composite output jack on your DVD recorder. Insert the other end of this cable into one of your TV's composite inputs. Many newer model TVs have more than one A/V input panel.

    • 5). Use your set of audio cables to connect the RCA audio outputs on your DVD recorder to the RCA audio inputs on your TV. Be sure to connect your audio cables to the same A/V input panel you used to connect your composite video cable.

    • 6). Turn on your digital receiver, television and DVD recorder. Tune the television to channel 3.

    • 7). Use the "Input" button your on TV remote to set your TV's video input channel to the channel assigned to the A/V port used to connect your DVD recorder to your TV. Use the "Input" button on your DVD recorder's remote to set your DVD recorder's video input channel to the channel assigned to the A/V port used to connect your digital receiver to your DVD recorder.
