How to Speed Up an iPhone 3G

    • 1). Clean the browser cache. Like any computer, things slow down when the cache builds up with leftover stuff. Although the cache is built to store files that are frequently accessed to speed up programs such as the Safari web browser, when it becomes too full it can actually hinder the performance of your device. To clean the Safari cache, click on the "Home Screen," then "Settings," followed by "Safari" and finally "Clear Cache".

    • 2). Quit applications properly. Unlike your desktop or laptop, applications on your iPhone aren't so easy to quit. When the application isn't quit properly, the processor can be taxed with all the additional work created by these apps. To properly quit an application, select the app from the Home Screen. When the app is open, press and hold the "Power" button at the top of your iPhone. Eventually, the red, "Slide to power off" button will be displayed. When you see this, release the power button and hold down the "Home" on the front of the iPhone until you are returned to the Home Screen. Doing this with apps that are used infrequently will dramatically increase your iPhone's performance.

    • 3). Update your iPhone. When people in the iPhone community complained of lags in the past, the issues causing them were fixed in the subsequent update. Make sure to keep your device up to date to make sure that everything is running as efficiently as possible.

    • 4). Install memory management apps. The app store has plenty of applications that can help you monitor the memory usage of your iPhone and help you clear any processes that you want to stop running. Stopping these processes is similar to using the Task Manager in Windows to speed up the CPU and computer's performance. One of the best apps you can use for this is MemoryInfo, which can be purchased for $.99.
