- 1). Shut the pool filter off and remove the plug from the electric source.
- 2). Disconnect the grounding wire from the Hayward pump motor grounding terminal. The grounding terminal on Hayward pumps is located under the motor canopy.
- 3). Put plugs into the skimmer basket and the pool return. You want to stop the flow of water into the pool filtration system.
- 4). Remove the skimmer hose from the Hayward pump inlet. If your pool filtration system includes a main drain, remove the main drain hose too. If your pool is not equipped with a shut-off valve for the main drain, place the open end of the main drain hose back in the pool.
- 5). Loosen and disconnect the Hayward pump from the filter housing. At this point, additional water will drain from the filter housing and the Hayward pump. Once you have disconnected the pump from the filter housing, there are no further obstacles to draining the pump.
- 6). Open the lid on the Hayward pump basket and gently tip the Hayward pool pump on its side to allow the rest of the remaining water inside the pump to drain. If you have the pump secured to the optional mounting base, you will have to remove the pool filter housing from the mounting base and then tip the entire mounting base to which the pump is fastened. This will allow the remaining water to drain out of the pump.
