Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie lead amazing lives and have countless resources to draw upon, it's true, but they are doing something extremely important on a regular basis that many people ignore.
We see pictures of Brad and Maddox spending a day together, and Angelina out holding Zahara or Shiloh and think, "Oh, how sweet". The fact is, they have actually made a conscious effort to spend one on one time with each of their children, as often as possible, and this is more than sweet, it's exactly what kids want and need.
After surveying hundreds of children from all around the world about what makes them feel loved by their parents, the responses were overwhelmingly similar. The response that was most consistent amongst most of the children was that they loved spending one on one time with each of their parents.
The examples of one on one time were quite simple. They included uncomplicated and effortless things such as taking a walk through the park, watching a favorite TV program together, cuddling in bed and talking, going to a museum or Science Centre, kicking a ball together in the back yard, and baking together. Furthermore, the students said that the one on one time did not have to be every week however they would like to look forward to it every month.
The bonds that can be created during this one on one time are immeasurable. Spending quality time together will help you keep in touch with the emotional stages of your child's life, which is invaluable when the teenage years arrive! You will want and need them to feel totally at ease to talk to you about their daily joys and struggles. The bonus to this as well is that your children will be happier and in turn be more willing to abide by the rules of your family.
Spending quality time as a family is special and necessary too, but this individual time that children seek will create a closer bond between you and your child, and will greatly raise their self-esteem. So, well done Brad and Angelina; we can all take a lesson from you.
