How to Load the SD Memory Card on a Dell D630

    • 1). Purchase a USB card reader if you do not already have one. The Dell D630 does not come with a built-in card reader like some computers do, so you have to purchase a USB card reader for you to use your SD card with your computer. Card readers range in price from about $10 to over $50, as of 2010, and are available at electronics stores.

    • 2). Connect your card reader to the computer using the USB cable that came with the device. Your Dell D630 computer automatically will recognize the device. You do not need to install any drivers or software to use your card reader.

    • 3). Insert your SD card into the SD card slot on the card reader. Your computer automatically will recognize the card as a portable disk. Double-click "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) to launch Windows Explorer. You should see your SD card listed as a portable disk.

    • 4). Double-click your SD card's icon to launch the window that displays its contents. If you have any files on your SD card, you should see them in this window. If you want to transfer files from the SD card to your computer, drag them from the SD card window to the folder or location where you want to transfer them on your computer. If you want to put files on your SD card, drag them from your computer to the SD card window.

    • 5). Close the SD card window when you finish transferring files back and forth. Click the "Safely eject hardware" icon located next to the clock on the system tray. A new hardware menu will open. Scroll through the hardware menu, click your SD card, and then click "Stop." When prompted, remove your SD card from the card reader.
