The most important purchase you will make when expecting a newborn is the crib. Your little one will probably spend 15-16 hours a day sleeping for the first several months and it is important to keep him safe and comfortable.

When we were expecting our first son my wife and I started shopping for the perfect baby crib. Wow, were they expensive!

After I recovered from the sticker shock, I sat down at my computer and started searching for cheap baby cribs that were high quality. I looked on a lot of different websites as well as consumer review sites to see which ones were top rated.

I found several quality cribs on Craigslist and a few on eBay at really great prices. They were used so I wanted to make sure they were in excellent shape and not on the government recall list. i didn't really see anything great but kept searching.

I also kept my eye on clearance sales and special offers from the local stores and even visited the used baby store in our neighborhood.

Safety, comfort, and price were important to us and we spent a lot of time before we finally made a purchase.

Guess what? We found a $1,200.00 crib at our local baby store on clearance for $300.00. It was a floor model so it was already assembled! I hate anything that I have to assemble. I always seem to have a few extra screws when I get done.

We then found the top rated mattress and made sure it fit snuggly in our new crib. Do not skimp on the crib mattress. Buy the best one and make sure it fits the crib.
