- 1). Disconnect the power source to your dishwasher. This means you will need to unplug the machine from the electrical outlet or flip the breaker circuit on the circuit panel. If you choose to turn off the breaker, be sure everyone is aware that the breaker is off for a reason. You do not want someone flipping it back on while you are working on the dishwasher.
- 2). Remove the kickplate panel. This metal panel sits just below the door of the dishwasher. Locate the screws that hold the panel in place. Location will vary based on machine style, check above and below the panel.
- 3). Locate the drain hose. As you look into the lower portion of the dishwasher, where the kickplate sat, the pump should be easy to recognize. It sits below the lower spray arm. The drain hose connects to the pump and run to the sink.
- 4). Place a pan under the drain hose to collect any water the runs out of the hose.
- 5). Disconnect the hose from the pump by grasping the wire clam,p at the connection between the hose and pump, with pliers. Slide the clamp up, away from the hose and towards the pump. Pull the hose away from the pump once the clamp clears it.
- 1). Run your hands down the length of the hose. Try to feel a lump or blockage in the hose.
- 2). Wiggle the hose back and forth in an attempt to loosen any debris that might be blocking the flow of water.
- 3). Run a garden hose from an outside spigot into the kitchen. Place the garden hose into the open end of the drain hose. This is the end you pulled away from the pump. Have another person turn the garden hose spigot on to run water. The pressure of the water may force out the blockage. Once water runs freely through the drain hose into the sink, turn off the garden hose.
- 1). Replace the drain hose if you are unable to free the blockage or if you detect a physical flaw in the hose, such as a hole that is leaking water. Pull the free end of the hose towards you to disengage the hose from the sink.
- 2). Watch to see where the hose comes from so you can connect the new hose in the same location. Some hoses will run up to the sink drain some may sit in an air gap on the top of the sink.
- 3). Attach a new hose to the pump and slide the clamp down over it.
- 4). Thread the free end of the hose back up toward the sink drain or the air gap on top of the sink.
- 1). Place the kickplate back into position under the door.
- 2). Secure the kickplate with the screws.
- 3). Turn the power back on to the dishwasher.
- 4). Run the dishwasher to see if the water now drains freely.
