For divers, Hawaii is known as one of the best dive locations in the world. It offers a variety of wildlife, including coral reefs, sea turtles and sharks. Hawaii also has dive spots located off of each of the major islands, so there are numerous possibilities for divers. Night diving also is available for experienced divers. - There are several types of wrecks available for divers in Hawaii. For those interested in World War II-era planes, the Corsair is located at a depth of 110 feet of the coast of Oahu. It is a popular spot for divers. A field of garden eels also lives at the site. Divers also can explore the baby barge in the waters off the east coast of Oahu. Sea turtles are often spotted in this area. On the west side, divers can explore the wreck of the Mahi. This sunken minelayer is encrusted with coral. Reef fish live inside the wreck, and divers often spot eagle rays in the area.
- For experienced divers, Hawaii offers one of the top dive destinations worldwide. The manta ray night dive off the coast of Kona (on the island of Hawaii) is ranked among the top 100 dives according to the Professional Association of Diving Insructors. Divers have the chance to observe manta rays and other nocturnal creatures feeding on plankton in the water.
- Kauai is known as "The Garden Isle." It is a top spot for divers as well. Sheraton Caverns is a popular site with a variety of animal life. At this site, three lava tubes connect with a small wall. The area is home to turtles, octopi, coral, whitemouth moray eels and a variety of reef fish. The area is safe for diving most of the time, so it is a very popular destination. Anini Beach is another popular site. It features Hawaii's longest reef. Due to high surf, this site is not safe for diving during the winter. Brennecke's Lodge boasts a variety of wildlife including black coral, sea turtles, eels and white-tipped shark. Night diving is also available in these areas.
