Black Algae Spots in Pools

    • 1). Scrub plaster and concrete surfaces of the pool with a steel bristle brush or pumice stone to break the algae free from the pool surface. Use a nylon bristle brush on vinyl-lined pools.

    • 2). Rub a chlorine stick or tablet over the areas where black algae was removed to kill the invisible roots of the algae. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.

    • 3). Scoop any loose black algae from the water surface with a pool net. Use a pool vacuum to remove the fallen black algae from the bottom of the pool.

    • 4). Backwash the pool filter to remove black algae from the pool's cleansing system.

    • 5). After sunset, chemically shock the pool and add liquid copper algaecide, recommends Pool Center. In the morning balance the chemicals with a pool test kit.
