- 1). Install the provided software from the Logitech packaging or download the software from the Logitech website. Select the proper operating software and create your login information to allow any modified settings to be saved. Connect the remote to the computer using the supplied USB cable and wait for the software to detect the remote.
- 2). Click the "Devices" tab, then choose "Add Device" to begin adding the devices that are going to be controlled. Click the "Select device to add" drop-down menu and choose the type of device that will be added. Click the "Select Manufacturer" drop-down and select the manufacturer of the device. Enter the model name of the device and select "Next." Verify the information is correct, then select "Next" and repeat the step until all devices that will be used have been added.
- 3). Choose the "Activities" tab and click on "Add Activity" to set the kind of tasks needed, such as "Watch TV." Choose "Manually add an activity to my setup" and select the appropriate activity category. Choose the devices necessary to perform the task and the inputs that the devices are connected through. Once all activities are set in the Harmony 890 software for necessary system usage, click "Update Remote."
- 4). Some devices may not have all the controls necessary for proper usage after the remote has been upgraded. Those commands need to be learned by the remote manually. If the original device is available, then the Harmony 890 can learn the infrared commands. Connect the Harmony remote to the computer and select the "View Devices" option. Choose the device that needs the additional options and click "Learn Infrared Commands."
- 5). Hold the original remote about 2 to 4 inches apart and press the button on the remote that you want the Harmony remote to learn. Save the command that is learned and name it in the Logitech software as you want it to appear on the Harmony 890. Select "Upgrade Remote" when commands have been named to save the setting in the remote.
