Bactrim DS is an antibiotic made from a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. This antibiotic is used to treat several different bacterial infections. This medication is only available by prescription and it must be taken exactly as directed in order to be most effective in treating bacterial infections. Patients must be sure to consume plenty of fluids when taking this antibiotic to help prevent the formation of kidney stones, says RxList. - This type of infection, also referred to as otitis media, is one of the most common illnesses in young children, says the Mayo Clinic. Children with this type of ear infection can experience ear pain and headaches; they may pull at their ears; a clear fluid can drain from their ears; they may cry more often; they can have a fever higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit; and they may have difficulty sleeping, be abnormally irritable and not respond to sounds. According to the Cleveland Clinic, other symptoms can include fever, nasal discharge, facial pain, headache, toothache cough (sometimes with sputum), fatigue and low-grade fever.
