- 1). Disconnect the clothes dryer's power cord from the electrical outlet. Move the dryer 2 feet away from the rear wall.
- 2). Open the dryer's lint screen door if the screen is in the top panel. Remove the two screws on the front inside lip of the lint screen opening with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The screws secure the dryer top to the lint duct. Pull the lint screen out of the dryer.
- 3). Slide a putty knife blade between the seam of the front and top panels, 4 inches from the right corner. Press in to slide the putty knife blade over the spring clip and pull up on the right corner of the top panel.
- 4). Reposition the putty knife between the front and top panel 4 inches from the left corner. Press in to release the retaining spring clip and lift up on the left corner of the dryer's top panel. Raise the panel back toward the rear wall and let the panel rest in the service position on the rear hinges.
- 5). Locate the door switch and the door switch wire harness on the inside front corner of the dryer. The wire harness is usually a white block. Press the tabs on the harness to disconnect it from the door switch.
- 6). Open the dryer door and remove the two screws that secure the switch to the dryer, with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Reach inside the dryer cabinet and pull the door switch out of the dryer. Take the door switch to an appliance repair store for a replacement.
- 7). Insert the new switch into the dryer and secure it with the two retaining screws. Close the dryer door and connect the wire harness to the replacement door switch.
- 8). Lower the top panel over the dryer and press down on the front edge to engage the retaining spring clips. Insert the lint screen and secure the dryer top to the lint duct with the retaining screws. Push the dryer back toward the rear wall and reconnect the power cord.
