- 1). Create vows that you will make to your stepchildren. If the children are old enough, involve them by asking them what they hope their relationship with you to look like. The vows should reinforce how much you care for the children's parent, and how much you look forward to having the children as part of your new family.
- 2). Incorporate the Claddagh's symbolism into the vows. Something like, "Just as the hands symbolize friendship and the heart stands for love, so this ring is a symbol of the love and friendship I bring to our family. As the crown represents loyalty, I promise to be loyal and faithful to our family."
- 3). Say the vows when your fiance places the Claddagh on your finger.
- 4). Give your stepchildren their own Claddagh rings to wear to represent the new family. If the children are old enough and wish to do so, they may also say vows to you and their parent.
