- 1). Remove the lock cylinder from the padlock using the tool provided in the kit. The C clamp should still be on the back of the lock when you draw it out.
- 2). Place the existing key in the lock and turn it in the cylinder. The lock pins should be at the bottom of the key when you've finished turning.
- 3). Remove the exposed pins from the lock cylinder. The key will have to be lined up exactly to ensure that the pins are sticking out. Use the tool included, or a set of tweezers to grab the pins and remove them. Keep track of which pins came from which place in the cylinder.
- 4). Turn the key 45 degrees and then remove it from the lock. Place the new key in the lock and turn it so that the teeth are facing the bottom, which is where the pins came out.
- 5). Place the new pins in the lock according to the stamp on the new key. Each number on the key corresponds to a length of pin of the same number. Place the new pins into the cylinder starting at the hole closest to the base of the key and moving away. Turn the key 15 degrees away and then back to be sure that the key works and turns smoothly with the new pins. Place the cylinder back in the padlock when you've finished rekeying it.
