- Some washing machine manufacturers do recommend that the washing machine be connected to an individual branch circuit. Other manuals do not specify whether or not the washing machine should be plugged individually into a circuit. Note that connecting other appliances to the same circuit may reduce the overall power supply available to the washer and can affect washing machine performance as a result. Check the user instruction manual for your specific machine for instructions regarding your model.
- As a rule, washing machine manufacturers recommend that the appliance be properly grounded through the use of the included power cord and an outlet that is grounded as well. Check with an electrician if you are not sure whether the outlets in your home are properly grounded.
- In addition to plugging the washer into a grounded, three-prong outlet, general installation instructions warn users not to use an adapter or an extension cord. The grounding plug on the included power cord should never be removed.
- Washing machines should be connected to a power outlet with a minimum of 120 volts, single phase, 60 Hz with an alternating current. In addition, the circuit should be a 15-amp time delay fuse or circuit breaker. Contact an electrician for information or with questions about the household power supply.
