- 1). Locate the IMEI number on your 8820. You can find it on the label behind the battery, or you can type "*#06#" on your phone and the number will display on the screen. Write the number down.
- 2). Call AT&T Wireless Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 and advise the representative you would like a subsidy unlock code for your phone. You will have to provide your phone's IMEI number. AT&T will provide the code over the phone as long as you meet certain conditions, such as an account in good standing.
- 3). Go to "Settings" on your 8820, then to "Options." Choose "Advanced Options" and click on "SIM Card." This will take you to the phone's SIM Management screen.
- 4). Hold the "ALT" key while typing the letters "MEPD." After the screen changes, type "MEP2." While you are typing you will not see the letters appear on the screen. The phone should now ask for the unlock code.
- 5). Enter the subsidy unlock code provided by AT&T. Press the trackball to confirm. If you entered the code correctly, your phone is now unlocked. Power it off to install your selected carrier's SIM card.
