AVG Tutorial

    Download

    • Download the version of AVG that works best for you. For home users, you can download AVG Free, which is free, AVG Anti-Virus and AVG Internet Security. Click "Download" under the version you wish to download. Pay versions are available as a free trial for 30 days. The pay versions offer more types of scans, firewalls and different modes for less interruption of your computer usage. Once downloaded, double-click the installation file to begin installing. Follow the wizard prompts to setup and install AVG. Integrate AVG in your email and browsers during the setup process. You can also set up scheduled scans and automatic updates.

    Scanning

    • Perform a scan after installing. Open AVG by double-clicking the icon on your desktop or click the icon in your Start menu. Press the "Scan" button in the main AVG window. You can select which areas to scan. Press "Scan Now" to begin the scan. Set up a scan schedule by going into the "Scan" section. Choose to set up a schedule to run on the days and times you specify. Run full system scans when your computer isn't being used to prevent any possible memory issues.

    Updating

    • Keep AVG updated so you stay protected. Open AVG and press "Update Now" to search for and install updates. Go to "Tools" to set up whether AVG updates automatically or whether you update manually. Update AVG weekly to keep your virus definitions up to date. New viruses are created constantly. Updates will help keep you as safe as possible.

    Handling Viruses

    • Determine what to do with viruses once they're found. Review your results after a scan. If you have any viruses, you will see a notification in the review window. Click the notification to view options. Either delete, quarantine or do nothing when a virus is found. Some virus results may actually be legitimate programs. Peer-to-peer programs for file sharing are often seen as viruses. Review all viruses before deleting to prevent deleting applications you know are clean.

Quarantine viruses that can't be deleted or if you're uncertain about deleting them. Quarantined files no longer run on your computer, but aren't deleted either. Delete suspected virus files when you're certain the file is a virus and isn't related to an application.
