- 1). Inspect the interior of your car. Wipe the dash panels, as well as the other plastic panels, with your fingertip. See if a smudge of dirt is present on your fingertip. This lets you know how well the detail person cleaned your panels. Your fingertip should appear clean.
- 2). Look in the less obvious places for signs of un-vacuumed dirt or debris. Check under the seat, as well as between the seat and the center console. A complete detail should remove the unsightly dirt from even the slightest of places.
- 3). Inspect the exterior of your vehicle. Look closely at the glass to determine if it's clean. If there are smudges or fingerprints on the glass, the detail person did not do a good job of cleaning it. Check the body panels. They should be shiny and free of dirt and water or soap spots. If the detail person did not do a good job of drying your vehicle, soap and water spots may be present.
- 4). Determine how much of a tip you want to award to the detail person based on your level of satisfaction. If the detail person completed the detail well, consider giving him a 15 to 20 percent tip. If the detail person did okay in some areas, but missed in others, consider a 10 percent tip. If the detail person did a crummy job, you may not want to tip him at all.
