- 1). The first thing you should do is check the yellow pages for scrap yards in your area. Call several to check on their best price for your vehicle. Find out if they will pick up the vehicle or if you are responsible for transporting the vehicle yourself. If you don't have the means to transport the vehicle yourself you should opt for using a scrap yard that will pick up the vehicle for you.
- 2). Some scrap yards will negotiate a price with you. When handling the negotiations you should research the worth of your vehicle and the estimation of what the scrap yard will be able to sell the usable parts for. If your vehicle has many usable parts you may be able to negotiate higher if you can argue the research.
- 3). Haul the car to the scrap yard or have the scrap yard pick up the vehicle. Check with the scrap yard to see if you need a title to scrap your car. Most states require a title to accompany a vehicle when selling it to a scrap yard.
- 4). You can check into donating your vehicle to charity so they can recycle the parts. Habitat for Humanity can use scrap vehicles as parts for the homes they construct for needy families. Check the link below to find out if your vehicle is acceptable. There is a link to submit the information on the Web site.
