How to Wear Garter Stockings

    • 1). Hold the top part of one of the stockings with your thumbs inside it and use your fingers to collect the hosiery until it is bunched up in your hands with the hole at the top. Slide your foot into the hole and slowly pull the hosiery up your leg.
      If you have a seam on the back of your stocking, make sure it stays in a straight line as you pull up the hosiery. Correct the line as you pull up the stocking.
      Repeat this procedure for the second leg.

    • 2). Make sure that the welt, or top part of the stocking that appears double-layered, is as high up as it can go on your thigh. The higher it is, the better the fit will be. If you have seamless stockings, begin by latching one garter at a time on the front.
      Unhook the metal latch on the garter so it is in two pieces. Slide the piece that looks like a button under the stocking and then latch the other piece of the garter over the stocking, connecting both pieces into place with the nylon stocking between them. Continue this for the front garter latches.
      If you have a seam in your stockings, you will need to start with your back latch first to ensure that the line does not move as you continue locking the hosiery in place.

    • 3). Attach the back garter latches. Step forward as if you are walking. Bend over and attach them one at a time with one hand between your legs holding the garter tab. The other hand comes around the outside of your thigh to hold the stocking. Guide the latches and the hosiery together. The longer your stocking, the easier this process is.

    • 4). Pull up the stockings one final time and readjust the garter belt to make sure it is comfortable and secure.
