Rainy & Snowy Day Activities for Preschoolers

    Snowy Crafts

    • Make full use of snowy weather by creating crafts with it in mind. If you have time to prepare before the snow hits, gather some pipe cleaners to make snowflakes in preparation. If the weather takes you by surprise, use what you can find in your cupboard, like making igloos out of sugar cubes. Even the kids who don't like snow will find the weather more fun after making crafts like these.

    Put on a Play

    • Your little guys will get really excited about putting on a play for you and for one another. Depending on how much time you want to spend on this activity, choose a well-known skit like "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" or make up your own. If time allows for the extra creativity, writing and designing your own play adds much more to the adventure by providing an educational opportunity as well.

    Hide & Seek

    • Hide & Seek is a solid standby activity when you're stuck inside, but make it more interesting and educational. Have your preschoolers hide things at first, instead of hiding themselves. Ask them to collect items that are needed for rainy and snowy weather, like galoshes, umbrellas and raincoats. Request that they hide these items throughout the house and then go looking for them. Your preschoolers will not only enjoy the game but also will be satisfied by knowing what you need to deal with it being yucky out.

Make a Snowman or Jump in Puddles

    • Don't think you just have to stay inside when it's rain or snowing, consider activities you can do outside with your preschoolers, too. Build a snowman together, but don't stick to the typical shape. Instead, form a dog that looks like your family pet. If it's raining, take time with the kids and jump in some puddles and sing. Just enjoy all there is about weather that isn't always sunny out.

    Cook Dinner Together

    • Inclement weather gives you and the kids a reason to slow down. Plan the night's menu with your little ones and give them a voice about what to prepare. For one night, don't worry about having the proper amount of meats versus vegetables in their diet. Encourage them to try something new, other than pizza or hot dogs, and let them help you prepare it for the family.
