Rights of the Medical Transportation Drivers

    Right to Disregard Road Signals

    • Due to the urgent nature of emergency medical care, medical transportation drivers have earned the prerogative to disregard traffic lights and certain road signs so that the patient may receive on time critical health care treatment and assistance.

    Right of Way

    • Sirens alarm drivers of the approach of ambulances and other medical transportation vehicles. This blaring sound signals other drivers to yield and give the right of way to the medical transportation driver.

    Right to Licensure and Training

    • Medical transportation drivers are entitled to ample training, which prepares and grounds them in driving regulations and certification to skilfully maneuver an ambulance. Licensures are not indefinite and, therefore, subject to expiration and subsequent renewal. Emergency transportation drivers have the right to reapply for their licenses after they have passed their examinations and assessments.
