Costa Del Sol Spain - Visitor Guide to the Estepona Region

Costa del Sol is situated in the Andalucia province of Spain with Gibraltar to its west and Nerja in the east.
With an abundance of golden beaches, rugged mountainous terrains, monuments of historical importance, a range of activities, a great choice of delicious food and a spectacular view of neatly white-washed houses make Costa del Sol a much sought after tourist destination.
However, the main reason for tourists coming to this region is the mild climate of the area that makes it suitable for holidaymakers to visit the Costa at anytime of the year.
One of the many incredible towns and villages in the Costa del Sol region is the flourishing town of Estepona.
The magnificent coastal town is only an hour's drive from the Malaga International airport and is about 25 Km from the charming town of Marbella.
Much effort has been put in to preserve the cultural heritage and the glorious history of the place, but at the same time modernisation has played a significant role in the development of the 14th Century town of Estepona.
A brilliant mix of the past infused with the modern amenities of the present make Estepano a wonderful place to holiday.
The town centre comprises of numerous plazas that are connected by thin cobbled pathways.
Plaza de las Flores, which is the main square, leads on to the Plaza del Reloj and the Plaza San Francisco.
A perfect example of modernisation in Estepona is the Puerto Deportivo de Estepona or the Estepona Marina.
This seaside boulevard is lined with beautiful palm trees and flowers and consists of delightful bars and restaurants, making it a perfect haven for both tourists and locals alike.
Estepona is also popular for its endless stretches of sandy beaches and some of the most frequented beaches are the Playa La Rada, the largest and the centre-most beach with Estepona Marina situated at the western end of it.
The Playa El Christo to the west of Estepona Marina is an extension of the La Rada beach, but is smaller in size and ideal for children and those travelling with their families.
To the east of Estepona is the Playa El Padron, which has a beachfront comprising of a combination of sand and pebbles.
Costa del Sol is renowned for its lavish golf courses that are considered to be one of the finest in the whole of Europe with Marbella and Sotogrande, known for its popular golf festivals that are held throughout the year.
Marbella and Sotogrande are easily accessible from Estepona making it possible for golfers to enjoy their favourite game.
Apart from golf there are various other activities available that both families as well as adventure seeking tourists can indulge in.
Swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, biking, trekking, hiking, fishing and several other activities can be enjoyed here.
Since the weather in Estepano is mild, there is sunshine almost throughout the year and so the region is seen to be bustling with tourists both in the summer as well as the winter months.
For families there are several attractions such as the Tivoli World in Arroyo de la Miel, which is a theme park with electrifying rides, charming gardens and a theatre.
The Selwo Marina is another theme park that displays an amazing number of marine and land animals housed in a natural habitat.
You can also view an astonishing range of marine creatures in the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre.
Estepona also has several 'fiestas' that tourists can join in and get an insight into the customs and traditions that are still rife after centuries.
The Costa del Sol region is well equipped with the choicest accommodations and other tourist facilities.
