Moles can cause significant lawn damage if not taken care of.
They will dig up your yard and ruin your grass completely if you let them stay around.
They also eat earthworms which are highly beneficial to good soil.
If you have a mole problem, getting rid of the moles is top priority for the health of your yard and soil.
The first step involves finding the mole in the yard.
Step on the mole tunnels flattening them out in the evening.
Come back the next day, the next morning preferably, to see which mole tunnels are the active ones.
This helps you know where your mole or moles most likely are knowing their most recent activity and movements.
Baits and poisons with moles will work well.
There are a few concerns about using these around your yard.
One issue is that pets will also find the baits and eat them which is definitely not good for your pet.
If you know the path of the mole, you already have an edge so a bait isn't absolutely necessary.
It's an option that you can take if you aren't worried about a pet or child finding it.
If you don't have pets or children and don't mind using poisons, use baits where the moles are active to kill them.
The next thing is to set a trap in one of the active tunnels.
This can be a professional trap or as something as simplistic as a larger jar or a bucket.
Just put it in the path of the tunnel to trap the mole.
You can do a catch and release if you don't want to have to actually kill the mole.
It will have to be moved quite a distance away to prevent it from coming back.
These are the two most common methods of dealing with mole problems.
If you can't get these to work, you might have to hire a professional.
