When it comes to taking holidays during the winter months, there are few better options than a ski trip.
With the wind howling outside and temperatures dropping, holidaymakers opting for this type of leisure time will undoubtedly appreciate the warmth and relative luxury provided by a rented ski chalet.
Morzine, Val D'Isére and other mountain resorts therefore become popular destinations to travel to at this time of year, and each winter sees thousands of eager tourists flock to the slopes to perfect their winter-sport prowess.
Head to the snow in France If this sounds like you, and if you particularly favour France as a destination, you may be happy to discover that, each year, the magazine supplement of a popular French sports newspaper compiles a list of the best 50 resorts in the country in which to rent a ski chalet.
Morzine typically places high on this tally, and the 2013 edition is no different: the increasingly popular family resort placed 18th overall this year, and continued to demonstrate why more and more families and individual skiers flock to its slopes each year.
When it comes to renting a ski chalet, Morzine does indeed present several of the factors L'Équipe's team of experts use as measuring sticks for their list.
These criteria include overall length of the pistes (for both alpine and Nordic skiing), average cost per kilometre, slope inclination, safety equipment and number of complementary zones - free ride areas, half pipes, beginner slopes, stadiums and so forth.
Infrastructures and special deals such as family packages also typically factor into the list, allowing ski-practising readers to know exactly what they can expect from each of the resorts being evaluated.
Unsurprisingly, most of the resorts in which these conditions are more fully balanced are located in the Savoie section of the country.
Savoie is France's main mountain district, and it is there that a skier will find many of the most appealing destinations in which to rent a ski chalet.
Morzine, its neighbour Avoriaz and Chamonix, for instance, are all located in this area.
It comes, therefore, as no surprise that it contributes no less than 13 resorts to the list, with Megéve taking first place overall and many of the others sitting on the top half of the table.
In a country such as France, considered the world's premier skiing destination and possessing almost 200 ski stations, this type of ranking is inestimable to clue skiers in on where they might want to go and why.
So if you are planning a winter holiday this year (and you understand French) try to get your hands on a copy of L'Équipe's magazine supplement and learn where all the best resorts are!
