- Several insects eat and eliminate populations of spider mites. The three main predators that have consistently been used to destroy spider mites: phytoseiulus persimilis, neoseiulus californicus and mesoseiulus longipes. All three are generally effective in temperature levels from 55 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and in humidity as low as 45 percent.
- Green lacewings can be introduced to a garden as larvae and will consume spider mite populations. Ladybugs -- the most commonly used beneficial insect for garden parasite maintenance -- and are purchased as adults and released into gardens. Praying mantis and spined soldier bugs have been used to combat mites and other garden pests.
- You can locate populations of insects that can assist you in the defense of your garden at a variety of places. Local nurseries, bulk supply stores and livestock supply stores often have at least a collection of ladybugs or other larvae that might be of assistance.
- Botanical interventions can increase the populations of beneficial insects that eat mites and other pests. Alfalfa, carrots, goldenrod, clover, ivy and morning glory are among possible options in your garden that can increase the health and robustness of your hard work. These plants have been known to attract yellowjacket wasps, parasitic wasps, syrphid flies and tachinid flies.
