Growing a pesticide free vegetable garden is no easy task. In todays world where all fruits and vegetables are sprayed with pesticides and other harmful chemicals you can feel good about eating organic, locally grown and pesticide free fruits and vegetables. Says AwareBear Computers owner Andre Leite Alves.
AwareBear Pittsford NY organic vegetable garden for 2011 has been a great success. Without using any pesticide we were able to grow healthy vegetables that look beautiful and taste great. Our vegetables from our organic garden are starting to come up. AwareBear has carrots, tomatoes and zucchinis at the organic vegetable garden, all grown in Rochester NY.
Keeping bugs away from the vegetables is not easy. Last year Andre Leite Alves tried a different method of bug control without using any chemicals. The solution was quite simple, by keeping a frog or toad around the organic vegetable garden is a great way to eliminate the bugs that usually eat the plants. Having a fence around the garden helps to keep rabbits and other animals from eating your vegetables; this helped a lot says Andre Leite Alves from Aware Bear in Pittsford NY.
A great way to do an organic vegetable garden is to find a piece of land that has not been treated with any form of pesticides. Grass pesticides are very harmful to your health, they were banned in Canada. Pesticides contaminate the soil and the underground water stream. Organically grown vegetables taste better and are healthier for you since they dont have any pesticides.
The inner city of Rochester NY has a lot of vacant land that would be perfect for growing vegetables. Since a lot of the downtown land has been vacant for many years the pesticide levels should be very low or in some cases not even existent.
Andre Leite Alves from Rochester NY owner and founder of AwareBear Computers in Pittsford NY has a plan to use all the vacant land in downtown Rochester in order to grow organically vegetables free of harmful chemicals and pesticides that are bad for your health. Instead of having empty vacant land, the City of Rochester can use that space to grow vegetables and educate the inner city kids about proper nutrition.
By involving the inner city kids in the project will help them make better food choices, lowering the weight and childhood obesity. In many other places where community vegetable gardens are made studies show the people involved eat better, their cholesterol is lower.
