The dishes of the south vary wildly from those of the north. Whatever type of Indian food you have in mind, you probably will have little trouble finding it in Canberra, Australia's capital city and home to a thriving Indian community and culture. - Blu Ginger Indian restaurant is located on lively Bunda Street in Canberra's Central Business District. You can find a large variety of dishes on the menu, from vegetarian to classic curries to seafood and chicken. Entrees include the Barrah Kebab, Tandoori Prawns, Fish Banana Leaf and the Chef's Tandoori Platter for two. Blu Ginger also offers dosai and thali lunch specials. Lunch is served every day from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Catering is available.
- Bollywood Masala serves northern Indian cuisine using a tandoor, or clay oven. Centrally located in the Canberra suburb of Dickson, the restaurant offers an extensive wine list and typical Indian appetizers, including vegetable pakoras, onion bhaji and samosa. Entrees from the tandoor include Kudrati Kebab (stuffed tandoori mushrooms), Paneer Shashlik (Indian-style soft cheese), Murg Tikka (chicken tikka) and Mirchi Jhinga (chili prawns). Vegetarian platters are available. Bollywood Masala is open Thursday and Friday for lunch from noon until 2 p.m. and every evening for dinner from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Jewel of India, located on West Row in Canberra City, serves Indian cuisines from assorted regions, although the rich tandoori dishes of northern India are the main focus. The Jewel--as it is fondly called by patrons--offers everything from seafood and lamb to vegetarian dishes. Some of the restaurant's main entrees include Malai Kofta Kashmiri, Aloo Palak, Madras Lamb, Kolhapuri Gosht, Butter Chicken, and a variety of Vindaloos. A wine list and take-out menu are available.
- Flavours of India states that it draws its inspiration from the traditions of Mughlai cuisine, with kebabs made from marinated and minced meats, curries, rogan josh, kormas and exotic biryanis. The restaurant's menu features Chicken Jhalfrezi, Malabar Fish Curry, Kadhai Murgh, Beef Korma and a variety of vegetarian paneer-based dishes.
