Costume Ideas for a Themed Favorite Song Party

    Elton John "Rocketman"

    • Released in 1972 as a single off the album Honky Chateau, "Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time) is one of Elton John's signature songs. Its lyrics, written by Elton John's songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, tells the story of a man leading a normal "9 to 5" lifestyle, but as astronaut. Dress up like an astronaut. Put on a white or silver jumpsuit and any kind of helmet, like a football or bike helmet and write NASA or European Space Agency on it. You could also literally dress up as a rocket by building a rocket ship out of cardboard that will hold your entire body. You could also make it more obvious that you're referencing the Elton John song by donning a wild pair of sunglasses at the same time.

Aerosmith "Dude Looks Like A Lady"

    • Aerosmith released their hit single "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" off their album Permanent Vacation in 1987. It was featured quite appropriately in the Robin Williams' comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. If you're a dude, this song title is quite easy to pull off, just look like a lady. Put on some makeup, a dress and high heels. If you're a lady, don't fret. You can just dress up like a dude and you'll be a dude that looks like a lady as well. Put on some jeans and a t-shirt, maybe a backwards baseball hat and a fake moustache. Either way, you could accentuate the Aerosmith-ness of your costume by having scarfs hang off you, much like Steven Tyler does in dress and to his microphone stand.

    Weezer "Buddy Holly"

    • Weezer's ode to the late-great rock & roll pioneer Buddy Holly came out in 1994 off its self-titled debut album. "Buddy Holly" doesn't have much to do with the actual Buddy Holly other than a reference to Rivers Cuomo looking "just like Buddy Holly," but it does have a 1950's vibe to it and its video took place on the Happy Days set. Wear a pair of horn-rimmed glasses, a black wavy wig, white dress shirt and 1950's era suit. Carry a guitar around with you. Bring a date with you as well and make sure she looks like Mary Tyler Moore, as the song goes "...and you're Mary Tyler Moore."
