What Are Towel Radiators

Towel radiators have become increasingly popular. However, some people do not use them in their homes, and as such have very little understanding of what they are. Sure, the majority of people know that a towel radiator is a radiator that looks a little bit like a clotheshorse, and upon which we dry our towels. Furthermore, they probably realise that the majority of such radiators are found in the bathroom. However, if that is where your knowledge stops, then you should read this article, because there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to modern towel radiators; we explain more below.

The majority of modern towel radiators are made of stainless steel that is shaped as a collection of tubes. There are many different styles and arrangements of these tubes, and this means that the designers can create some really stunning and beautiful designs that can add a fantastic focal point to any bathroom. In fact, some examples border on art and look fantastic – of course, such radiators will cost you a lot of money, but if your budget stretches that far, then it is well worth the extra cash.

This type of radiator has three different heating methods and the one that you choose will depend on the heating system that you use in your home, as well as your personal preference. These are:

1.       Electric heaters: if you have economy seven heaters in your bathroom, then you can change it out for an electric towel radiator. As long as you have an electric outlet in your bathroom, then you can use such a heater.

2.       Centrally heated radiators: these simply plumb into the central heating system and are heater by the boiler.

3.       Combination radiators: these can be warmed either via the central heating system, or by electricity. These give you much more control over the way you use the heat in your bathroom. It can seem a bit silly to switch on the boiler simply to heat one radiator.

The only problem that you may find with options either two or three is that you will have to hire a specialist to install the radiator. This is because it can be dangerous to change the radiator as you may interfere with the pressure within the central heating system, and this can cause wide spread damage within your central heating system, which can lead to dangerous events, such as burst hot water pipes.

It is important that you make considered decisions when choosing where in the bathroom to place the radiator. As you will probably know, hot air rises, so it is better to place radiators low to the ground. If you mount them too high, you simply heat the room above, and very little of the bathroom, which is entirely counterproductive.
