Selecting the right type of security system for a home or business is a process that takes some research. From the number, type and placement of security surveillance cameras, to the type of access solutions available, the number of options can be overwhelming. By selecting a reputable company that specializes in professional security systems and installation, you will find that the decision can be made more easily with a professional by your side. One question that you many have when looking to install surveillance camera systems is about the methods of access that are available, and the level of security provided by each. Here are three types of access control systems that are most often used today.
Keypad With Code
A keypad with a code is one step more secure than a traditional key lock. With this type of lock, keys cannot be lost or duplicated. Individual employees may be assigned separate codes in order to unlock the door. Intruders who encounter a keypad lock are less likely to try to manipulate the lock into opening because many of these locks will set off a security alarm if the wrong code is punched in repeatedly or if the lock itself is jostled too hard. One downside with this type of lock is that some can be unlocked using only a very strong magnet to move the metal plate on the inside, allowing the door to open.
Card Or Key Fob
Some hotels have chosen to install door locks capable of reading RFID enabled devices instead of using the standard swipe card. By installing an RFID chip into a card or a key fob, and allowing the guest to use that to unlock their room, much wear and tear is saved on the lock itself. This new type of key needs only be near the lock, instead of being inserted properly and then removed. This type of lock is also capable of logging information about times when the lock was accessed, and whose card was used to open the door. Locks that use a card or key fob are very beneficial for many businesses as they tend to enhance security.
Biometric Entry
The most secure locks today are not dependent on anything that you might carry in your pocket or attach to your key ring. Instead they depend on you. Access is granted by these locks with information that can only be provided by an individual. This is because verification is made through one's fingerprint, a scan of one's retina or by voiceprint. Not only does this enhance security because these methods of verification are not easily lost or stolen, but also because they are almost impossible to impersonate or duplicate.
Upgrading to a more secure access system is a step toward enhanced security for your home or place of business. When combined with security surveillance cameras you will be able to have peace of mind knowing that the things you value most are well protected.
