Surf Injury Management

Surfing is an adventurous sport in present time, but this wasn't given the same importance in the time of its inception by Hawaiian people. They did not consider it as a sport or a career like it is been considered now a days. The fame of this sport is increasing day by day as people as becoming more adventurous and willing to change their sports preferences. This sport, where considered as adventurous at the same time has number of dangerous aspects associated. Since this game requires high tides, the surfer needs to go in deep sea and sometimes they get themselves in trouble with nasty tides and get injured. As we know that surfing is done in an open sea and the surfer is exposed to number of risks in that, it is recorded that number of surfers get injured and sometimes lose their live by having an encounter with sharks and other nasty creatures. Bad weather also creates problems for the surfers and they end up getting injuries. Since this sport has been treated as a serious game and people have adopted it as their career prospect, the numbers of advancement have been done in this field. The management of most of the injuries occurred while surfing is based on six principles.

First of all the surfer must get the training of minimizing the injury while surfing and after having the injury a person needs to reduce the associated pain to that injury like headache, nausea etc. After addressing the two, comes the main injury, where u always try to heal the damaged tissue despite of considering whole area. Now the surfer needs to keep himself indulge in stretching and exercises to strengthen the injured area, in order to get himself back on surfing. Consulting a physiotherapist is always necessary in any case of injury and after returning back on surfing, a surfer must be cautious about re-injury.

There are number of things that a surfer needs to keep in mind like at time of injury like dropping off from the board, twisted ankle, the person must rest and avoid rigorous massage or intense exercise. In case of swelling or bleeding the surfer must use ice or compress the area with bandage to reduce bleeding or swelling, whereas heating and exercise is not recommended. In case of bleeding the injured area must be elevated from the level of pelvis, to reduce the blood pressure/flow. But again precaution is always better than cure and we must not risk our live for the sake of adventure in any case.
