     The fourth house stands for things connected with the earth and home.  It stands for mother, house one lives in, land, real estate, temples,  buildings, fixed assets, country,  conveyances, boats, airplanes, contentment, happiness, comforts, luxury, emotions, intimate feelings, all endings, graves, wells,  and academic degree.   It represents the heart, and chest area. 

     The fourth house is a sensitive house.  When malefics are placed in this house the person tends to be more emotional and reactive.  Malefic planets there tend to make a person fairly unhappy throughout life, even if other aspects of the chart indicate success and wealth.  The person will tend to be depressed and will miss the joy of life.  The malefic would have to be aspected by a benefic planet for the affliction not to be so great.   When benefics are placed there the person will have more emotional stability and happiness; more contentment in life.  Regardless of marital problems or career downfalls, the person will still retain the joy and happiness of life.  The optimism and contentment will remain.   When determining the condition of the heart, it is important not only to analyze the fourth house which represents heart, but also the Sun and the fourth lord.  If they are all afflicted then it is a sure indicator that the person may suffer from heart disease and therefore it is important that he or she take care of him or herself from a young age.  There is also a very high indication of heart trouble malefic planets placed there.
