- 1). Greet the baptismal candidate. In the case of infant baptism, the parents and godparents are greeted. Ask the name of the baptismal candidate.
- 2). Examine the faith of the baptismal candidate. This is usually a set of questions such as: Do you believe in God the father? Do you believe in Jesus Christ? This examination usually follows the creed of the particular denomination. The candidate answers yes to each of the questions. In the case of infant baptism, the parents answer for their own faith and are often asked if they will teach the child the articles of faith.
- 3). Ask the candidate if he rejects evil. Like the examination, this is usually a formulaic set of questions unique to each denomination. In the case of infant baptism, the parents and godparents answer for the infant.
- 4). Apply water to the candidate. Pour or sprinkle water over the candidate's head, or dunk the candidate. While the water flows, say "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost."
- 5). Present the newly baptized with a white robe or wrap her in a white cloth. The white robe signifies becoming a new creation in Christ.
