- 1). Find an art image with a size between 300 and 600 dots per inch (DPI). Average household printers cannot usually print out more than that. Download the image. For PCs, right-click and then select "Save Image." For Apple computers, hitting Ctrl and click will take you to the menu where you can download the image to your computer.
- 2). Open the computer program that you will use to arrange the image on a card to print out. There are many possibilities. Microsoft Word or PowerPoint are fine, but iPhoto on Macs will also print out cards. For the more computer-savvy, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are excellent options. Some of these programs offer templates for card-making. For others, you will need to arrange the elements to get the card where you want it. You can print out two art cards per 8 by 11 1/2" sheet of paper. The cards should be over to one side, so that when you print out the paper and cut out each card, you can fold the card over and have the image on the front.
- 3). Avoid overcrowding the image with other elements. While a frame works fine, you do not want much text or decorative motifs over the image itself.
- 4). Print out the cards. Slice the card in two with a paper cutter to create a straight edge. If you don't have a paper cutter available, you can use a ruler and pencil to draw a right angle and cut with scissors. You may also fold the paper over where you want to cut it. Wet the folded edge than tear the paper gently. Repeat for all edges of the card. This will create a furry, handmade effect that can look quite elegant. Fold the card over so that the image is on the front of the card.
