How to Find a Planting Zone

    • 1). Locate your state and city on the Plant Hardiness Zone Map on the USDA map, http://www.ahs.org/publications/usda_hardiness_zone_map.htm. Please be aware that your state may be divided into more than one zone.

    • 2). Note the color used for your specific area. The map is color coded with each zone in a specific color.

    • 3). Refer to the map key located at the bottom of the map to match the color to the accompanying zone. Keep in mind that that hardiness zone boundaries may be irregular in shape and your zone may not match the zone of gardens a few miles away. When your location falls near a boundary, err on the side of the lowest zone until you become familiar with typical temperatures in your area.
