When diagnosed with diabetes, most patients are prescribed medications that lower blood glucose levels.
These drugs may indeed work for you, but at the same time, you can choose a natural mineral or vitamin supplement that will do the same thing for you, but be much better for you in the end.
One of the medications that may be prescribed to you is called Sulfonylureas.
These drugs come by the common name of Orinase or Diabinese, and work by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin.
These pills have been prescribed since the 1950's, and are usually taken before meals.
Now, natural substances which would do the same for you-stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin- are the herb Gymnema, the herb Asian ginseng, and the mineral zinc.
Gymnema not only assists the pancreas in insulin production but also increases sensitivity to the insulin produced, while at the same time decreasing "sweet cravings".
Asian ginseng works in two ways as well: by enhancing the release of insulin from the body and by increasing the amount or number of insulin receptors.
In this way, not only will these two herbs help your body to have more insulin, but also to sense the presence of the insulin available.
Zinc is an important mineral because it not only is absolutely necessary for insulin production, but also helps in digestion.
With a deficiency in zinc, you would find yourself with a lack of insulin, and soon-as a result of improper digestion-lack of other nutrients as well, which would cause further problems.
The main job of Meglitinides is to increase insulin production from beta cells.
Common forms of Meglitinides are Pranden and Starlix.
The problem with Meglitinides is that, as a result of their insulin increasing properties, hypoglycemia is a risk.
Chemical medications (often prescribed by doctors) many times will override the body's natural method of balance in the body.
Because of this, a drug such as the Meglitinides which helps diabetes by raising insulin production may actually cause harm by stimulating the production of too much insulin.
The herb Pterocarpus marsupium, taken from the resin of a certain type of trees, works similarly to Meglitinides by protecting the beta cells from damage and by helping with the regeneration of beta cells.
There are also natural substances which regulate blood sugar levels in the body, but which are not comparable to any drugs.
This is because they work with the body on a broader level to keep blood sugar levels stable; they do not necessarily perform one particular action only.
Chromium, vanadium, and vitamin B3 work together to control blood sugar by forming GTF, or Glucose Tolerance Factor, which enhances insulin's work in the body, thereby reducing insulin requirements.
Magnesium is needed by every cell in the body, and for over 300 enzymatic reactions, and unfortunately, over 86% of Americans are deficient in magnesium.
A deficiency in calcium can result prevent insulin from working as well as it should.
Onion and garlic both work to lower blood sugar as well.
Blueberry leaves, stevia, and cinnamon also help to lower blood sugar and help treat diabetes.
There are numerous other natural remedies for diabetes as well.
All you need to do is a little bit of research to find all of the more healthy alternatives to chemical medications.
