My 2015 Top 5 Fifth Wheel Picks

Last Updated: 9/3/2015

Some RVers are content with their small travel trailers or small motorhomes. Some RVers want the biggest worst rides on the block. For RVers who crave size, amenities, features and have a sizable towing vehicle, the best RV is likely the fifth wheel trailer.

There are several fifth wheels available so where do you start? With us, of course. Here are our top five fifth wheels.

Keystone Montana Series

Keystone is one of the most popular brands when it comes to fifth wheels. To be honest, there is nothing spectacular about the Keystone except for that it is just about perfect for your typical RVer. The exterior of the vehicle is tough fiberglass with 2” welded aluminum framed walls and floor. The body has an enormous pass-through storage compartment to keep all your goods with durable Dynaspan Floor Decking.

The interior of the Montana Series has just about everything a family needs for a great RV trip. A massive 18-cubic foot four door fridge is the centerpiece of a solid kitchen that also has an oversized sink, 22” oven and 30” convection oven/microwave. You can move straight into the living area to watch your 48” LED TV with its own sound bar. At the end of the day unwind in your iRelax high-density mattress.

The Montana also has several neat amenities like a central vacuum system, integrated nightstands, porcelain toilet and much more making the Keystone Montana series an all-around fantastic fifth wheel trailer.More »

Redwood Series

Redwood RVs currently produces three fifth wheel campers and it’s hard to beat the model named after the company itself. We picked the Redwood for its high-quality construction, feature-rich interior and amenities. This fifth wheel is designed with full-timing in mind so you know it comes loaded.

The underbelly of the Redwood is enclosed and even heated to stave off the cold during winter camping. Even the ducts are wrapped in aluminum with foam cores and with strong insulation in the rest of the RV, you know this one was designed for four season use.

All that insulation and value means nothing if you don’t have a nice interior space. The living area comes decked out with plenty of seating including residential sofa and recliners where you can enjoy whatever you cooked up in your kitchen that houses a 12 foot Norcold refrigerator, baker’s oven, three burner stove and more. Other great amenities include an option of LG TV sizes, JBL Soundbar, and the whole rig is satellite ready. Toss in a big bathroom, 15,000 BTU AC, 40,000 BTU furnace and loads of storage and you have a fifth wheel that is ready to host you and yours all year-round.More »

Forest River Wildcat Series

If you’re looking to start out with a fifth wheel, the Forest River Wildcat series may be your best bet for its features and affordability. Now the Wildcat series is affordable but that doesn’t mean you have to give up a ton of amenities even when you are dry camping. Some of the Wildcat dry camping features include largest in class holding tanks, 12V LED lights, and ready-for-solar prep inlet.

Walk into the Wildcat and you will feel like you got a great fifth wheel at an affordable price. The kitchen includes hardwood cabinetry, 8-cubic foot fridge, Corian sink covers and counter tops and an extra-large double sink. The living area houses giant windows to view the area, queen sized sleeper sofa and two swivel glider recliners where you can watch your 39” 1080p Furrion HD TV.

Other neat features of the Wildcat series include an outdoor kitchen with a Weber grill, backup camera, more than 6’ 4” of stand-up space in the bedroom, Wildcamp Eco-Foam mattress, vacuum-bonded frames and many other great options making the Wildcat a great first fifth wheel.More »

Dutchmen Voltage Series

If you can’t decide if you want a fifth wheel or a toy hauler don’t worry about it as the Dutchman Voltage Series serves both purposes and it is outfitted and strong. You have an exterior convenience center that hides hookups, tinted safety glass frameless windows, huge electric awning, and 7000 pound axles that hold up nitrogen filled wheels. Your toy compartment has a giant swing door and ample storage that makes getting even the biggest toys in and out a snap.

The interior is decked out as well. Let’s start in the kitchen with your option of a 12 or 18 cubic foot four door refrigerator, hardwood cabinets, quartz counter tops and more. The living area is more than ample in space and comes with a 4-seater reclining sofa and storable table for meals. You get a queen bed in the master suite along with two wardrobes and a dresser.

The Voltage has several other features that will be sure to please such as a second 40-gallon gas tank, remote and touchpad master controls, rotating TV in the living area, cable/satellite ready, diamond plate brush guard and much more. If you want plenty of rooms, luxurious features and plenty of rooms to bring along your toys, the Voltage series is likely right for you.More »

Grand Design Reflection Series

Last but not least we bring you the Grand Design Reflection series. The Grand Design is built with laminated aluminum frames roofs and wide walls covered with a gel coated fiberglass exterior. The popular brand LG brings you solid surface countertops to go along with residential style microwave, double sink with pullout sprayer and not only hardwood cabinets, but hand rubbed maple cabinets.

The sleeper sofa is genuine leather where you can relax and look out your panoramic style windows or watch your 50” LED TV. And after a hard day, the bedroom is meant for comfort, it comes with Black Label pillow top mattress, king sized wardrobe, under bed storage and it’s all TV ready.

The Grand Design Reflection seems pretty standard, so why did it make our list? Easy, it’s because the Reflection series never exceeds 15,000 pounds no matter what model you choose. The smaller models start out with a dry weight less than 10,000 pounds so you don’t need a heavy duty vehicle to haul this fifth wheel. So if you’re wanting a fifth wheel but not wanting to ditch your half-ton truck, the Reflection series may be the right ride for you.More »
