• The eastern shore of Lake Huron along the western edges of southern Ontario offers many opportunities for outdoor fun. From Sarnia on the south to Sault Saint Marie on the north, fishing, boating and other water sports are common, but there are also backpacking trails, woodlands and a scenic route around the lake. Lake Huron Resort

• The Lake Huron Resort is located just north of Goderich, which brags that it is "Canada's Prettiest Town." Resort facilities range from no-services tent sites, to RV sites with electric hookup, to full-service trailer rental units and some lakefront or overlook sites. The resort offers free hot showers and a dumping station. Trailer rental units, sleeping either four or six, do not include beddings and linens. The resort also features a recreation hall, pool, game locations for horseshoes, shuffleboard and bocce ball, as well as arcades and a children's playground. Scheduled events from mid-May through mid-September include wagon rides, teen and kids movies, Friday night BBQ, karaoke, and lots of other children and adult activities. Nearby activities include museums, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and shopping.

The Southampton Inn

• Located in Southampton, Ontario, only one block from the shore of Lake Huron, the Southampton Inn is a bed and breakfast in a transformed century-old home. Deer Park Lodge

• The Deer Park Lodge, near Bayfield, Ontario, sits on five acres right on Lake Huron. There are 13 cottages, ranging in size from one to three bedrooms each, with either forest or lake views. Each cottage includes a fully equipped kitchen, private bath, cable TV, fireplace and propane grill. Each bedroom has either a double or queen bed, and each unit has a double-sized futon in the living area. Air conditioners are available to rent. On the grounds, there is a swimming pool, horseshoe pit, badminton pit and a shuffleboard court. Water sports are available on the lake, including guided fishing expeditions.
