Environmentalists claim that the earth's climate is getting hotter, better known has the "green house" effect.
All I know is that at 211 degrees water is pretty hot too but, at 212 degrees it begins to boil and boiling water creates steam that can power a locomotive.
That one extra degree made all the difference.
When has putting one extra degree of effort towards your weight loss made all the difference? How would you rate your degree of effort right now? Is it boiling over or sub zero? Well, if your weight loss efforts tend to cool down in the heat of the season I have a strategy that can be a degree of difference.
When your weight loss efforts are boiling over you are more focused on what you're eating and why.
Sticking to an exercise routine and enjoying all the benefits of your new life style.
However, when your efforts start to cool off, your focus becomes fuzzy on what was important in the beginning and a day without exercise becomes two or three then non-existent.
It's not uncommon for you to loss focus from time to time however, the key is to refocus before regaining and a clear sign of losing motivation is your old thoughts, feelings and behavior start to revisit.
Think about when you lost motivation in the past and how you re-motivated yourself.
A motivating strategy I like to use is Mental Imaging.
This strategy is very effective and you can do it any time you need a lift.
You'll want to sit in a quiet place with your eyes closed.
When ready, think of yourself already having achieved your goal and enjoying all the benefits, you need to really picture this.
Ask yourself what you are doing, hearing, seeing, and wearing.
You might be enjoying a day at the beach in that hot new bathing suit or catching a glimpse of your reflection in a window pane.
Think how good it feels achieving your goal and picture it right now.
What does it feel like? Do you feel more confident, energetic or having a greater self esteem? You'll want to keep these feelings close as you practice the good behaviors that will lead to your goal and will help you make better choices at your next BBQ or social event.
Walter Elliot once said "Perseverance is not a long race: it's many short races one after another".
In my coaching this week I related this quote in relation to a marathon.
The total distance of a marathon is 26.
2 miles but, it's the series of steps and strides that the runner makes that allows them reaching their goal.
Breaking down goals that are smaller, more achievable and realistic can help keep your motivation high.
But, remember to give yourself an already predetermined reward when you achieve each set goal.
No exceptions, no food, and don't wait.
Reward On Delivery! To get what you never had you must do what you've never done and that one extra degree of effort separates the good from the great.
The only thing standing between you and your goal is the wiliness to try and the faith in believing anything is possible.
Like I tell my members "you can't fail when you never stop trying".
Have a Great and Successful Week, -Steve
