Life's a vacation, or at least that's how we imagined it when we were children. When we're young, it's so easy for us to think about what we want to do with our lives without having any concern regarding the stability and income a career may provide. Volunteering allows us to use our skills to help others, and often times the experience can be very rewarding. - Nonprofit organizations can be as large as major corporate businesses, which means they often need to fill the same career positions with volunteers. Volunteers can have responsibilities of entertaining philanthropists and patrons which can include all-inclusive travel. Those who volunteer as members or leaders for major corporations including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can have the opportunity to travel with the troops they lead, or with other members of their troops.
- Camp counselors often times participate in all of the same activities and events as campers. Imagine volunteering for a summer camp that specializes in events and activities that cater to your interests. Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan, for example, is a camp for those most interested in the fine arts. Camp staff often participates in practices and recitals or shows, and also attends performances on the camp property each day. The camp provides room and board for all staff on campus.
- Missionaries are often volunteers who travel to help in other parts of the world. Missionary responsibilities typically include helping with an effort in the area where they are traveling, helping the poor and those in need, as well as sharing the good news of their religion. Their trips are often funded by the nonprofit organizations they represent, such as churches, as well as their own fund-raising.
- Local schools are usually looking for chaperones to take children on school trips. School trips can include everything from apple picking with the kindergarteners to white water rafting trips with the local high school's adventure club. Chaperones are typically responsible for supervising the students' needs as well as making sure they are safe at all times. Typically chaperones room and board with the children and are responsible for staying with them at all times.
- Organizations like the Pacific Whale Foundation or the Smithsonian Institute are usually organizations that are committed to research. A professional background in the field is usually required when doing research for an organization, however, with the right background, traveling to obtain information is an excellent way to learn more about the area you seek and immerse yourself in the culture.
