Paper Mache Ginger Jar

A visitor named Mary Jones made this cool jar using a balloon and paper mache techniques.

From Mary - "This is a photo of a ginger jar I did a few months ago. It was given to my mother as she collects ginger jars. This is an original design, and I have made several ginger jars. It was made using a 12-inch round balloon for the body. The base was covered with five layers of paper and white glue; one layer was made of coffee filters as it makes the object very strong. The neck, base, and lid were made of heavy cardboard, also covered with five layers of paper.

The final layer of paper was heavy foil gift wrap that was put through a paper shredder to make uniform strips. The knob on the lid is a beadcap and marble attached with hot glue. After everything was dry, I applied two coats of Mod Podge. It took about two weeks to complete."
