I thought I share with you 10 Tips to consider when gardening with children.
Here are the first five tips below, watch out for the next 5 tips coming soon.
1.
An important one to remember particularly here in Florida is protection even on cloudy days.
Use sunscreen, hats and cover up especially in the summer months.
Consider shading or shady areas for activities in the garden with your little ones.
2.
Young children can drown in only a couple of inches of water, so never leave them unsupervised.
If you have a pond or water feature in your garden and young children, consider securing the area or fencing off.
Friends of ours have even drained them and converted them to sandpits with covers, later to reestablish them once the child is old enough to understand the dangers.
3.
Remember all electrical tools or garden machinery (i.
e.
lawnmowers, trimmers, etc) should be kept out of reach of children and not used while young children are in the garden with you.
4.
Sharp or heavy gardening tools should be stored out of reach of children to avoid accidents occurring.
They should never be left lying around in the garden.
Don't allow young children to use tools designed for adults; there are many tools available for child use at a practical age.
Tools should be kept in good order i.
e.
if wooden handles to avoid splinters.
5.
Keep all chemicals used in the garden securely locked away safely.
Weed killer can kill more than just weeds!
