If you think that teaching your pet chinchilla to do tricks is going to be easy, then think again.
Although there are some very basic chinchilla tricks that you can teach this very intelligent animal, they won't be in the same league as those that a dog would be able to learn.
Certainly these are not creatures that can be taught to do things in order to entertain you or your friends.
So just what sorts of tricks are you able to teach your chinchilla? Below we take a look at the kinds of things that they are willing to learn.
Also remember that these creatures can be quite obstinate so if they are not in the mood for learning something, no matter how hard you may try or how may treats you try to bribe them with they just won't do it.
A chinchilla can be taught to learn to respond to when its name is being called in the same way a dog does.
But in order to get it to respond you will need to repeat the name you have chosen time and time again.
Once it has learnt that this is something they will need to respond you may be surprised one day when suddenly while it is playing you call your pet chinchilla's name and it looks up at you.
This shows to you that they understand that you are talking to them.
It is important that when teaching tricks to your pet chinchilla that you provide them with a set routine for doing so.
These are creatures of habit and can become extremely fussy if you choose to change the way in which you want them to learn things.
However, by sticking to a particular routine when trying to teach them something new will not only help them to focus better on what is happening but will also ensure that they enjoy what they are doing.
A happy chinchilla is one that is willing to take on new things.
Also when it comes to training your pet to do certain tricks you must take it very slowly.
The only way to train your chinchilla effectively is through doing each trick a step at a time.
So on the first day of you teaching them new chinchilla tricks get them use to say answering to a certain word.
Then the next day get them to understand the movement that you would like them to carry out in association with that word.
Another thing to remember to do when it comes to training your pet to do certain chinchilla tricks is to provide them with a treat every time they do something correctly.
Just as with dogs they respond much more effectively when offered a treat after doing what you have asked of them.
However, make sure that you don't provide them with too many treats and limit them to small ones such as raisins.
What you don't want to do is end up with a chinchilla that is so overweight that cannot do what you ask of them.
