Science fiction as a genre has gained significant popularity with the masses, particularly children. American sci-fi movies are popular and most-awaited around the world. Masses wait for the release of such movies with bated breaths; which speaks volumes with regards to the huge fan following of this class of movies. New age technology and special effects have given sci-fi movies a new dimension.

Hollywood movies have always been a sort of benchmark for movie industries across the globe. Most other film industries take a lot of inspiration from Hollywood Movies in terms of script, technicalities and plots.

Two movies that have created quite a buzz since their release and have been an avenue of much inspiration are Matrix and Total Recall.

Matrix was revolutionary movie in its own class; it ushered in an era that was based on simulated reality generated by machines. The movie was a runaway success of the year 1999. The film has been recorded in the annals of history for popularizing a novelty visual effect concept known as bullet time. The movie is still very popular among the masses for its stunning and awe-inspiring sound and visual effects. Not only this, many sequels have been made after the profound success of the first installment.

To add to this success, Matrix won the Oscars awards for sound, visual effects, sound effects editing and film editing. The award was further accentuated by the fact that it was won against the legendary Star Wars series. It also received awards from Saturn awards and BAFTA and was certainly a clear favorite with regards to other successful movies of that year. Matrix was adopted as a theme for series of animation, video games and comics after its success.

Another movie which was greeted with much fervor by the cinema-going audience was the Sharon Stone and Arnold Schwarzenegger starring sci-fi movie Total Recall. This movie was among the most costly movies ever to be made. The special audio and visual effects are still afresh in the minds of the fans and sundry even after two decades. The movie also won the coveted Academy Special Achievement Award for its stunning special effects for the year of its release. Many years later, academy award winning director Steven Spielberg made the sequel to the original plot called Minority Report. Ditto with Matrix, after the success of Total Recall, video games and books were published worldwide.

To further popularize these Movies and monetize on their popularity, it was made available online through various sites from where it can be downloaded. So, it becomes very easy to enjoy these mega busters from the comforts of ones home along with their children who are great fans of this genre of movies.
