Director John Moore has been great the past few years, with the exception of his 2004 film Flight of the Phoenix, so the idea of Moore directing Max Payne looked very promising.
I went into this movie expecting to see a film comparable to Moore's film "Behind Enemy Lines", but was disappointed to find it was not what I was hoping for.
The movie started with the lead character Max Payne, played by Mark Wahlberg, drowning in ice cold water.
The scene then rewinds to an earlier time period of Payne's life.
I have always been a fan of movies that start like this one, so this captured my attention right away.
After the first twenty minutes my attention started to slip due to the films poor acting and the constant dark nature of the film.
The character that I could not stand throughout the film was Mona Sax played by Mila Kunis.
The dialogue for this character, along with the majority of actors in this film, was poorly written.
Mark Wahlberg was the only character that I enjoyed watching, though his character could have been not as depressing.
Toward the end of the film the action finally started to pick up.
Even though it pick up, I still felt like the action was not as good as it could of been.
The action scenes were short lived but good while they lasted.
The Broken glass and slow motion bullets were all too reflective of a Jon Woo film.
The story was too simple and did not leave you guessing.
The visuals in the movie were top of the line and kind of had a Sin City feel to it.
I have not played the video game of Max Payne so I don't know how true to the game it was.
if the game is as slow as the movie I won't waste my time playing it.
Overall I would tell people not to waste their time to see it in the theater.
If they really want to see it than they could rent it on video.
