Different Types of Brainstorming

Brainstorming is defined the process by which new ideas are created or developed. It allows a group to come up with the best possible results by combining the different ideas of the members of the team.

But why is brainstorming important? In problem solving and decision making, brainstorming is one of the strategies that is commonly used. Brainstorming allows the team to come up with different ideas or solutions in order to solve a certain problem or come up with different ideas for an organizations growth and development. Brainstorming allows for faster resolution of problems, compared to one person solving the problem alone.

Here are some examples of the different kinds of brainstorming techniques:

Group Brainstorming: Group brainstorming is a common technique used in brainstorming. It is the technique used in organizations to come up possible ideas and new opportunities. Group brainstorming usually starts with writing a goal and from there, each participant in the group will be able to share and suggest different ideas to meet the goals. Using the group brainstorming technique will help other members of the team get inspired by the ideas of others and come up with more ideas and solutions to reach the goal.

Free Writing: Free writing is the most basic technique in brainstorming. Free writing is the process of writing down all your thoughts on a paper to generate new ideas.

Mind Maps: Creating mind maps is an effective way of organizing thoughts. In creating mind maps, write the goal or objective, and branch out different actions and solutions needed to be done in order to achieve the goal. Having more than one action or solution is effective as it allows professionals to explore all possible solutions.

Brainstorming allows the team to obtain the best results by combining all the ideas and resources available. It helps sort out ideas and generate new ideas to create a plan, solve a problem and reach certain goals and objectives.

Brainstorming is just one of the techniques used in problem solving and decision making. A good way of developing and further enhancing brainstorming techniques is by attending different training programs, seminars and workshops. Attending such programs will help the participant gain more knowledge on brainstorming and further enhance their skills and learn more techniques and strategies that can be used in problem solving and decision making.
