Rua Oscar Freire, in the Jardins district, is emblematic of upscale living in São Paulo and Emiliano, a hotel celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2011, sums up the best of metropolis sophistication and comfort.
A tour of the hotel in early April 2011 reveals the features which have carved Emiliano a place of honor in the city's hospitality scene - polite and professional service by the porters, reception staff and butlers; outstanding art and design in the common areas; updated comforts in suites peacefully decorated in neutral colors; the elegance of the Emiliano Restaurant and Bar; and an immersion in São Paulo skyline made all the more exciting by creative architectural solutions.
You're ushered into the Emiliano vibe through a lobby with marble floors, sky-high windows and mirror wall, a reception desk discreetly hidden from the street by a massive round column and a spare but impacting collection of art and design furniture pieces in which a colossal cocoon by Brazilian artist Siron Franco steals the scene.
To the left, a wall of orchids and tropical foliage leads into the bar and the Emiliano Restaurant, one of the best in town.
After the tour, I sank into one of the comfortable armchairs in the lobby, sipping Emiliano mineral water and browsing the fabulous books on the coffee table, among them Pau-Brasil by Eduardo Bueno. Not a bad way to wait for a business contact or rest a little from your sightseeing before heading to your more private island of comfort upstairs.
The Emiliano is a member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World. It made the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List 2010.
