How to Add a Skimmer to a Pool

    • 1). Reduce the pool water level. The water should be lowered to about 2 inches below the level where the skimmer is being installed.

    • 2). Trace the outline of the skimmer on the outer pool wall. The skimmer kit comes with a template. Using the permanent marker trace the outline of the template. Also mark the holes for the screws.

    • 3). Cut the opening for the skimmer. When cutting the skimmer hole make sure to cut both the wall and the pool liner. If there is water in the pool, have someone stand on the inside of the pool with a wet towel just below the opening to catch any metal shavings that may fall in.

    • 4). Drill the holes for the screws.

    • 5). Affix the simmer to the outer wall of the pool. Insert the rubber seal between the pool wall and the skimmer. Align the pre-drilled screw holes with the skimmer holes and use the screws from the kit to attach it to the wall.

    • 6). Connect the faceplate to the pool liner. Insert the rubber seal between the pool liner and the faceplate. Make sure to align the faceplate screw holes with the pre-drilled holes. Using the screws provided in the skimmer kit, attach the faceplate.

    • 7). Attach the pool filter hose to the skimmer and increase the water level. The water should reach half way up the skimmer faceplate. Once the water level is up, run the filter and check for leaks. If you see water seeping on the outer pool wall around the skimmer, tighten the screws on the faceplate.
